Mike Makin-Waite was employed by Burnley Council from 1995 to 2018. Following 2001’s ‘northern town’ riots, he worked on promoting good race relations and community cohesion. His new book 'On Burnley Road: Class, Race and Politics in a Northern English Town' is published by Lawrence Wishart Books (1 May 2021). It includes a chapter ‘From Belfast to Burnley’.
